My poor little munchkin has a cold and it's not fun at all!
A couple of days ago, he woke up with a cough, stuffy nose and sneezing a ton. I just watched it to make sure a fever didn't creep up and since the coughing, stuffy nose and sneezing hadn't mellowed out at all, I took him to see Dr. S this morning...along with the rest of Orange County and all the sick kids. Geesh..what a nightmare!!
Our appointment was at 10:15, but didn't see Dr. S until 11:15 but thankfully she said it's just a cold and to let it run its' course. She did say that there's a TINY chance it could be swine flu, but she wasn't thinking that's what it was because he's not acting like he has it. She said he'd be really lethargic and have a really irritable temperament. She's seen a handful of kids get swine flu with a cough being the first symptom- that's why she said it could be a possibility. But, I'm not going to worry about it all that much until a fever creeps up. We've been told to just monitor him to make sure he doesn't get a fever and if he does, bring him right back in.
Dr. S HIGHLY recommends the seasonal flu vaccine AND the H1N1 vaccine, so Tyler's going to get both at his 6 month well check next Thursday, with his other vaccines- poor guy! Sam & I have been hesitant about Tyler getting the H1N1 vaccine, but Dr. S said the effects from the H1N1 vaccine can't even compare with what he'd get from the real virus, so she said it's not worth even chancing. And, it made me feel much better that both of the vaccines that Dr. S has are the thimerosal-free version. Phew!
Hopefully our little muffin will be back to normal in no time! :-)
